In this Keynote address I stress the importance of understanding ownership of your life! There is something powerful that happens when you get the revelation of ownership! It's also stressed in this keynote, that after you accept and embrace ownership, you have to be willing to put in the work, and get a "Dillard" shirt! And finally I talk about developing a growth mindset!
We all grew up learning about American History in school, about George Washington being one of the founding fathers, and first President! We learned how Thomas Jefferson pinned the Declaration of Independence! And how we fought for our freedom from the tyranny of the British to form this great nation! In this keynote I paint the canvas of American History with a broader brush, and include the contributions of slaves and indigenous people! This keynote pairs well with the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Workshop!
In my experience as an educator, I have found that one of the main reason students fail in college is because of a lack of resilience! Resilience can be defined as, the capacity to recover quickly from difficulties; toughness. Grit can be found as, mental toughness and courage. In this workshop we strive to teach students how to build grit and resilience, not only for college but into their lives! This workshop helps them develop a “I will not quit“ attitude!
We all experience emotions, it’s what make us human! We all experience sadness and anger! But it’s how we handle these emotions that can determine our success! Emotional Intelligence is not a term we hear regularly but it’s a term anyone seeking success should try to understand deeply! In this workshop we define the term and look at strategies to help students overcome, manage their emotions better! We learn that improving our Emotional Intelligence starts with us looking inside of ourselves for the answers!
I believe that one of the most important skills that we can have as human beings is the ability to think for ourselves! We are inundated with massive amounts of information on a daily basis, finding the truth can be difficult! A person with critical thinking skills seeks out the truth, they are willing to ask questions but also willing to consider multiple points of view, to draw a conclusion! In this workshop we challenge students to explore their thinking skills, and to think beyond the norm! We debate current issues in an effort to stretch our thinking skills! A potentially difficult task but necessary to become a true thinker!
DEI is trendy! It seems like every organization in America has created some form of this principle into their culture! In this workshop we define the concept but also seek to have discussions that will facilitate race relations in the workplace and in our country! We will tackle somewhat difficult topics such as slavery, the 1619 project, and more!
